Stay at the Taj Hotel Cape Town.
Taj Cape Town is a five-star hotel, situated in the oldest district of Cape Town. Opposite St George’s Cathedral, 350-year-old Company Gardens, the St George’s Mall and Greenmarket Square, it truly is right in the middle of the city's historic heart.
The building itself dates back to the 1890s and was once home to the South African Reserve Bank and Temple Chambers. Step into the foyer, which was the banking hall of the Old Bank, and there's no denying you can feel the essence of the rich history this property holds, perfectly balanced with luxury and timeless old-world charm.
A warm welcome of complimentary snacks, wine, and fresh fruit awaited us in our one-bedroom suite with spectacular views of the city, Table Mountain and Lion's Head. We stayed in one of the beautiful mountain-facing, Luxury Rooms in the King Tower Wing.
Fitted with everything you'd expect from a five-star hotel, quality linen, the softest carpets, complimentary newspapers, fresh flowers, a fully stocked mini bar, plush bathrobes and slippers (which we basically live in for the entire duration of our stay). The bedroom is separate from the spacious separate living room and there's a full work area as well. The bathroom offers an over-sized bathtub, an array of quality bathroom amenities and a walk-in marble shower.
The 17-story property boasts 176 rooms, all with spectacular city views or overlooking the iconic Table Mountain. The most impressive one being the Presidential Suite that we were lucky enough to experience. An exquisite marble-floored, 194 square meter apartment stretching over the 16th and 17th floors, offering unobstructed views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, the South African Parliament and the Company Gardens from every room. It has two bedrooms, a lounge, formal dining area, pantry, spa treatment area, steam room and a personal exercise room.
Our stay ended with a visit to the breathtaking Jiva Spa. Known for their authentic ancient Indian therapies and 6000-year-old Eastern wellness philosophies devised to align body, soul and mind. They use the ‘Athithi Devo Bhava’ technique and firmly believes that all clients are gods and goddesses and that they should be treated as such. Taj Cape Town boasts the only Jiva Spa in Africa and the spa’s global principles apply: everything that touches the body is completely natural, with materials like organic cotton, sun-bleached fabric, oven-baked pottery and soy cotton.
From beginning to end, we were treated with utmost care as we enjoyed the Winter Warmer special. A 90 minute session starting off with a self-heating back scrub and ending with an exquisite Vishrama full body massage. After a cup of sweet Indian tea and complimentary fresh fruit, we left warmed up, invigorated and ready to take on the freezing cold Cape Town Winter’s day awaiting us outside.
If you’re in the mood to get re-energized and fully pampered during this last stretch of Winter, hotel guests and day-visitors can book this treatment until 31st August 2019 for R850, instead of the usual R1350 and I can’t recommend it enough.
After a weekend at the Taj it’s not difficult to see why this hotel-chain has become such an iconic brand for the world’s most discerning travellers seeking authentic experiences. Offering an unrivaled fusion of warm Indian hospitality, world-class service and modern luxury, not only through accommodation and facilities, but from a culinary perspective as well. Have a look at all of the different dining options Taj has to offer in THIS blog post.
